In 2013, with the help of Ainsley's Angels of America, Shamus was able to obtain a running chariot that enabled him to participate in running events and races with his dad, Shaun. In August 2013, the duo completed the Sweltering 6 Hour Ultra Marathon with Shaun supplying the POWER to PUSH, and Team Captain Shamus pulling him along. With Shamus' spirit fueling Shaun's legs, they completed 45 miles in the allotted time and finished in 1st place.
THEY WON AN ULTRA-MARATHON!
From July 4 - September 1, 2015, Ainsley’s Angels of America undertook an epic journey entitled Ainsley’s Angels- Power to Push. Angels Shaun, Nichole, Shamus and Simon Evans traveled from Seattle, Washington to Bronx, NY as a result of nine year old Shamus' vision! He was born with cerebral palsy, which limits his primary means of mobility to a wheelchair, and he came up with the idea to run across the nation as a way to promote involvement for children with special needs. Shaun ran over 3200 miles and was pulled by Shamus for over 2000 of those miles in running chairs provided by our partners at Adaptive Star and Team Hoyt Running Chairs (www.AinsleysAngels.org/Chariots).
Shamus pulled his father whenever road and weather conditions allowed, while Nichole and Simon acted as navigators and pit crew for the summer long mission. The Evans family traversed through 15 states as they made their way from coast to coast. They operated out of the Ainsley’s Angels RV and towed a trailer loaded with Advance Mobility Freedom chairs to donate to families across America. Our IRUN4 partners helped us to locate the recipient families in each state along the route. During the course of the summer, we were able to donate nearly 30 chairs while promoting inclusion. The memories made and new friends we met will be cherished always!
Stay tuned for future Ainsley’s Angels- Power to Push missions!
