Shaun Evans is an ultra-marathon runner from upstate NY. His athlete rider son, Shamus, was born with cerebral palsy which limits the use of his legs. As a result, he uses a wheelchair as his primary means of mobility.
In 2013, with the help of Ainsley's Angels of America, Shamus was able to obtain a running chariot that enabled him to participate in running events and races with his dad, Shaun. In August 2013, the duo completed the Sweltering 6 Hour Ultra Marathon with Shaun supplying the POWER to PUSH, and Team Captain Shamus pulling him along. With Shamus' spirit fueling Shaun's legs, they completed 45 miles in the allotted time and finished in 1st place.
THEY WON AN ULTRA-MARATHON!
What could be next? Shamus had an idea---> a cross country run during the summer of 2015 to help Ainsley's Angels of America to provide more children with a gift of mobility and the ability to participate and compete. As if running across the country was not enough, the Evans Team is now planning to run down the country! That is right, in the summer of 2017, Team Evans will be Rolling Down the Mighty Missisppi.
Who: The Evans Family. Specifically, Shamus and Shaun will run, while mother, Nichole, and younger brother, Simon will provide support along the route.
What: A 1,700 mile journey down the United States from Minnesota to Louisiana.
When: With a duration of 28 days, the trek will take place from July 1 - 29 2017.
Why: The mission of the cross country run will be to raise awareness and provide fundraising support for Ainsley’s Angels of America to promote involvement and active lifestyles for children with disabilities.
How: Our partner Larabar was so inspired by the Power to Push mission, they have decided to help fuel their journey through the clean fuel of the LARABAR products.
Over the course of sixty days during the summer of 2015, 9-year-old Shamus Evans, who has cerebral palsy, and his father, Shaun ran 3,200 miles across the USA from Seattle to New York City on Behalf of Ainsley’s Angels of America. They were supported by their family and pit crew, mother Nichole, and younger brother, Simon. Along the way the Evans family presented more than 30 running chairs to children so that they too may have the opportunity to roll with the wind. That mission was dubbed Ainsley’s Angels- Power to Push.
During the summer of 2017, Ainsley’s Angels will be at it again, with Team Evans rolling down the Mississippi River during the month of July. Although the distance is shorter (~1700 miles from Moorhead, MN to Lake Charles, LA), the mission remains the same- to provide the gift of mobility to children and families along the route by donating racing chariots, promoting inclusion and inspiring others to dream BIG.
